Spring Lawn Care Tip: Fertilizers

Spring Lawn Care Tip: Fertilizers

Summer is almost here in the Northwest and it's time to think about your lawn!

After a cold winter and a rainy spring, your grass is ready for some sun! A bite to eat couldn't hurt either! To help encourage growth, consider fertilizing your lawn. If applied properly, fertilizers are a great way to ensure healthy ground coverage and lush growth throughout the summer months.

When applying fertilizer it's important to keep our streams and rivers in mind. Almost every Northwest storm grate washes directly into our local watersheds (AKA rivers and streams). To ensure that fertilizers stay on your lawn follow these simple rules:

1.) Avoid applying fertilizer grains right before a rain storm - Large amounts of rainwater can wash granules right off of your lawn and into the storm grate before they can dissolve. This not only harms aquatic ecosystems, but your pocket book too! Talk about money down the drain!

2.) When applying liquid fertilizers DON'T SPRAY TOO MUCH! - Most spray fertilizers are made for specific lawn sizes and should be applied as directed for proper soil penetration. Spray only the amount needed for your lawn size to avoid runoff that will pollute the local watershed.

3.) If you have any questions or doubts about applying fertilizers or other chemicals to your lawn, contact a professional applicator like Citywide Lawn Services at 360-334-0281. We are always available to help and would be happy to answer your questions!

  1. You have to take care of your lawn during summer more than spring, especially when you live in really hot states. The hotter the weather, the more effort you should exert in keeping the lawn intact.
